Of The Past

Of The Past

of the past, the past –

it haunts and weasels,

straight into a heart –

fleshy and rebirthed

refurbished, rendered new …

oh! that past,

it withers fresh air,

drains lungs into despair –

nibbling and gnawing,

coating in fears …

the past, that past

a mirror,

reflections of who was lost,

distorts the now found

picking apart colors

shading life into dullness

seeping its path for loneliness

chasing out happiness

choking beauty from pain …

though now has no patience
for past’s childish games,
it dares to call past’s wicked ways,
all the false memories of better than this
or chained up strength,
now claims victory over torrents unnamed
and tyrants whose voices infiltrated and maimed
past has lost its constraint on now
