i swallowed, gulping in a fiberglass touch
penetrating gravel filled lungs,
listen; a piercing crackle,
zipping, spiraling through –
a frantic vein spread,
my feet on the edge,
should i be still, or run?

i asked; a lone cricket,
lying beneath the sky’s mirror,
it’s body sparsely noticeable;
<to Most>
hiding; under the frozen blanket of Winter
nary a chirp from its stiff legs,
i whispered, you are missed

ever so gently,
i bowed upon the circling rink,
breathing in powdered covered evergreens,
deer prints leading to nowhere,
[tracers of fading memories]
quandary-filled pupils sinking;
into a breaking surface
shall i swim with the fishes today?
i asked myself

life moving under my knees,
fear and destiny awakening;
settling with soothing pounds,
rhythmic beats spoke in sentimental ways
the clouds and i; One?
recollection of lost memoirs;
all we had been through together,

the lake and i were friends,
at any moment, he could take me into his arms –
hypnotized by a small vein,
it opened into a thousand threads,
pathways to roam, or fall –
awaiting my decision,
one last look to the sky,

tired eyes soaked in remnants of the Sun,
heavy was an empty chest,
my panting mouth gasped,
startling, my frost coated eyelids – Open,
a white tailed bunny nibbled quietly,
staring – deprived of emotion,
with one last glance,
it hopped off saying,
you would have been missed

  1. Wonderful commerce with nature in this. I have a thing for crickets…we’ve had one for a house guest (in the desert) this past week. I couldn’t find him to set him free.

    • Thank you Victoria! I love crickets too – it seems that one manages to find its way in the house during the summer and keeps me up all night. However, I do enjoy the pleasant chirps so the frustrations of being kept awake pass … at times. 🙂

  2. As much as i or ya..might love nature..
    it sounds eerily like someone is planning on swimming or sinking..
    with a friend of nature..that might lend
    a bite..
    to fish with…

    • It may sound that way … hmm … possible moments of that sinking feeling … yes, that was what I was trying to grasp, but the end expresses the true nature of us sinking to be pulled back into the light and oneness of nature mingling with humanity … the fishes will always keep us afloat. 🙂

    i felt that cricket and saying you miss it….
    i am a sucker for nature….but also that connectedness
    we all share….
