Birthmark

port wine stain;
bleeds across delicate neck –
mark of shame,
hair won’t hide

wretched thing;
gawking eyes scream,
alien being!

vile spot?
if only fingernails could rip it off,
claw against raging voices,
calling from its pigmented musings,
hate and love wax in pools,

whispers in the mirror –
{a lifelong pray}
go away, please disappear …

rejection, dysmorphia
stained reflection!
mockery, tearing through each
purplish hue,
what of beauty?

discolored dye,
ink blot’ish scroll,
ripping tales of societal expectations –
hate of oneself,
writhing flesh,
burned with a mark,
a damned spot

invisible to some,
who choose to ignore;
blended into the mosaic –
a lovely face and smile
to those who see beauty in collages

an artist’s craft,
upon a neck
blended into a skinful canvas,
port wine pane,
{pain}
of loss and gain,
a mirror reflects
acceptance.
