Comforting Good Night

Comforting Good Night

little arms clasped around her neck,
wrapped with sweet and sticky smells –
her youngest boy,

half asleep lips lullabied, love you mommy

she gripped her arms tenderly; with a lingering press,
i love you, emerged a comforting whisper –
darkened room

cradling his little body –
heavier with each breath,
a tighter squeeze around his frame;
I love you so, so much – never forget that

one last hug and kisses covered his forehead,
her presence slowly left the dark room,
pausing from the sound of his little voice –
her eyes escaped into colorful stars that glimmered his ceiling,
what baby?

even when i’m dead? you’ll love me even when i am dead?

oh, yes, baby we will meet in heaven,
we’ll dance on all the stars in the universe –
their dust carries our dance floor and they know our love song

giggles filtered through tired sighs –
he gently slumbered with a smile,
and the knowing of his mother’s love
