What is Truth?

What is Truth?

a scarlet thread from my vein to yours –
distance, a thing of imagination,
an arch; a covenant,
breastplate to shield
the once soft caress
to graze into these entrails;
time of past and present tense
lingering trails
singed to and fro
a single cell –

to string,
a theory twined?
into universal messages,
or is it our information,
//that spreads//
this and that; here and there
a law written upon the mulitverses –

waiting to implode,
black hole swallow us up
with the echoing questions,
and fantastical myths,reasons,ideals
//faint philosophies//
we envision the answers!
to all our wants

a single red thread;
a chord of connection
still, we stand still
left with the simplest of question
dare I ask, do I want to know –
shall I whisper,
it for the Universe to blow
onto the planets as they spin,
will I ask, will I ask again;
What is Truth?

Disclaimer here – I do not usually do this, but after thinking about this poem I felt that there could be a misunderstanding. This poem is a free flow of thought triggered by a question of truth, it has nothing to do with religious beliefs or questioning other’s beliefs. I have my own spiritual beliefs that I choose not to express because of being in environments where I have been attacked if I did not agree.

I accept people whatever their truth may be.

    we envision the answers to all our wants…and call that truth…ha….i think that there s truth but we settle for a far paler comparison most often…

    • I think you are on to something. Our truth seems to evolve as we evolve there may be some fundamentals that we cling to such as trying to be kind and taking care of others, but as a whole we all seek our truth.

      It can seem to parallel with others, but even when we seem to be in agreement with a group or another the “truth” is coming from our perspective which, is different from theirs… it’s all so complex, but somehow seems very simple at the same time – I have no idea how I came to that conclusion. Lol!

      This is a question that I have thought of often it was triggered in childhood while in Sunday school. I had never written a poem about it so I had a go at it.

    in stillness the answer waits, I believe….

  3. Mary says:

    A rough question you have asked here. I don’t know if absolute truth really ever can be determined….as everyone has his/her own perception. The simple question is really very complex.

    • I agree it is complex and I think that is why it is a good thing to ponder at times. Not all the time because it has been known to cause me to obsess and spin in loops of trying to find the “right” way for everything. However, it has led me to some less complex truths and quiet places.

      I did not expect that with such a question, but I have found my peace. I think a good truth to hold onto is knowing that others have their own perception and to be able to accept them where they are at is something of a treasure.

  4. I can definitely relate to what you mentioned in your disclaimer! Hats off to you!

  5. Beth Winter says:

    Truth. That is an excellent question. I believe truth can be found when agendas are stripped away and no one has anything to lose. Excellent expression.

    • Thank you! And a wonderful bit of truth that you share, agendas do get in the way. For me, I have found that when I feel I have nothing to lose I can see more clearly, but getting to that point has usually been a rocky path. 🙂

      • Beth Winter says:

        Rocky paths on my end too. It’s sad but the truth only frees the one who tells the truth. Even with truth exposed, I’ve found that deception often has more believers. Even so, I will continue with my head held high and truth on my side even if I continue alone.

  6. Miss Hannah says:

    I love the flow and there are some beautifully linked words. It depends on what truth someones journeying to, For what man should know, than the The truth is absolute, it’s just not viewable for everyone for many reasons, but it is available for everyone, and it is a journey to it.

  7. Linda says:

    So much creativity while you free flow. I love the ending to this piece: “it for the Universe to blow
    onto the planets as they spin” Just gorgeous.

    I’m sorry to hear that your beliefs were attacked. Peace~

  8. the question of the ages ‘What is the truth’..is there really a concrete answer to that..or could it be that truth is merely what your ‘twinged’ or perceived or is it what we ourselves create. Interesting poem

    • Interesting is good?? I was thinking upon that feeling – it has been the question of the ages. I like to muse over it from time to time when I feel myself slipping into black-and-white thinking. It is easy to believe what we want to without testing our own thoughts.
