Lack of Imagination
a sonnet, a sonnet, i cannot write a sonnet;
my mind refuses such complexities –
it cannot wrap or warp such creative eccentricities,
must it be so boring? unable to wake Shakespearean prosings?
a calamity for any wanna-be poet;
my ink well is dry, fingertips lay raw,
crusty tips click and clink hoping for a prize!
a magnificent musing to gasp out from heart to stroke –
a feather of a sonnet’s brilliance to exist;
O’ what treachery my mind’s incapability,
to morph a magical metaphoric theme;
with melodramatic peripeteia; if only –
if only, i could summarize great imagery,
having left a sonnet filled with argumentative rhymes –
simply 14 lines and a climatic conclusion,
infusing the euphoric coupling,
to end such tantalizing thoughts,
but no, a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g
does not come so elementary for me –
alas; i am left with my foreboding,
lack of imagination! (my 21 lines)
Sonnet is my least favourite form, even by the sonnet masters…they have a rhythm that feels unnatural to the beat of my soul. I completely understand.
I have not truly attempted a sonnet before, every time I have thought about it I get overwhelmed. It would require a lot of brainpower for me – I tend to be so “free-flowy.” 🙂 I do like creating poems like this though in order to help my obsessive mind be ok with the fact that they are difficult for me.
I am glad I am not the only who finds them least favorable. 🙂
I love your honesty. I think all writer have been struck mute by the foreboding form of the sonnet?:)
🙂 i jus had to google and find out what a sonnet is 🙂
maybe i’ve unwittingly written one or two 🙂
writers block is always a nightmare
Now that is awesome! I would love to unwittingly write a sonnet! When I have writers block this is what I do, I write a poem about it. It seems to help I have done it several times. 🙂
lol when i have poets block, i try to write in prose or free form thoughts, i’m sure that any sonnets i’ve written by mistake will have mistakes that any self loving shakesperean would cringe over lol
Shakespeare may have said, O’ tis wish I had penned the piece! Lol! 🙂
i would be more impressed if Tolkien or Blake were to like my poetry 🙂
Oooh, yes!!!
Well it’s not the worst thing not to be good at–it’s also not the best thing toi be good at–so don’t worry, just write your poetry your way and it will be just great.>KB
Thank you KB! I think I am best suited for free flow. 🙂
How clever! 🙂
Thank you Eva!
Wow brilliant!
