Bathroom {Pipe}Dreams

Bathroom {Pipe}Dreams

big square tiles taunt –
tiny little hairs;
where did those come from?(!)
sink laughing,
with grimy toothpaste,
blue speckled grout,
adhering so sparkly-like,
must I clean you?

smite you out, I must!
shower head sop, sop,
sopping irriguous drip,
pounding splatters hit against my ears,
while, smaller tiles giggle at their smudges,
as if it is a funny-ish thing,
scrub, scrub,
scrubbing the toilet bowl

swirling in robust chortles,
it knows just how much I hate him –
our {dys}functional relationship,
I despise everything about him,
but need him so …
and I find him handsome,
when he glistens under the gleaming lights,
bouncing my attention to the fingerprint-
water spatted mirror!
reflections of foul and fine,
a bathroom dirty then, clean!

OH, but I am a Poet!
I should not speak of such things,
as my feet tap the frigid floor,
and the aroma of envisage,
consumes these cells;
conceiving fairy tales,
prose, lyrics from my Muse –

[alone] in my bathroom,
creating passion fused fantasies,
bellowing romantic conjurer’ings;
to induce and seduce a lonesome world?
{or am I speaking of my world? SHH!}

shower curtain, open to a whimsical stargaze?
Ah, I am on hand and knee,
cleansing products burning my nostrils,
fingers and hands stiff from scouring,
the sink pedestal winks,
then, brushes frazzled hairs away from my face;
amiably kissing my cheek,
we lecherously watch the bubbles go down –
unfeasible pipe dreams

Claudia at dVerse Poets Pub  gave an interesting prompt “bathroom-poetry” and I decided to give it a whirl just to see where my mind would  go. (I tend to struggle with using prompts so I like to challenge myself when I have the time.) Yep, this poem is what came out. 🙂  Go have a gander at the other fine poets who are participating too!

    ha…fun poem…oy the bathroom cleaning is little fun….love when you turn and address the reader directly…and get a fun kinda crazy in finding fantasy in the bathroom alone…ha…

    • Thank you Brian, this was a fun write. I actually cleaned the bathroom that morning so all the FUN was still fresh in mind! (And my fantasy of escape!)Ha ha ha

  2. Such a delightful write….

  3. Poetry about cleaning the bathroom has to turn out to a resentment about that person contributing to the grime 😉 loved that stanza (close to home)

  4. zongrik says:

    you sure can have a great adventure in your bathroom. the pipes made me think of Organ pipes, and organs are something we ___ in the bathroom? there’s a connection? hmmmmmm

    high tech toilet power

    • zongrik, you would be amazed at what adventures lurk in my bathroom! 🙂 Love that you connected pipes! All my dreams were going down the pipes in an organ’ess tune. Ha ha ha

  6. claudia says:

    haha…see…those are the real poets that even get inspired while CLEANING the bathroom… piece…really enjoyed your take…and think it’s time that i cleaned the bathroom…smiles

    • So glad to hear that Claudia, thank you for a great and challenging prompt! I had a lot of fun writing this one. It helped that I was inspired by my experience of cleaning the bathroom earlier that morning. 🙂

  7. Now we need one for the laundry room!

    • Greg, egads! The laundry room … the clothes seem to reproduce into mounds of fabric masses. I have no idea how it happens and the next thing I know I am swallowed by baskets of clothes tackling me. I try to keep the door shut and pretend nothing is in there. It is ok to wear the same thing for a month, right? Lol! I kid! 🙂

    This is awesome! I actually do a lot of my writing in the bathroom – while taking a shower. Something about the warm water, sounds and space – gets the juices flowing!

    • Thank you Kimberly! You know I have read several things that suggest people become most inspired while in the shower. (and the bathroom in general)I cannot recall now where I read it, but I think it has something to do with being relaxed and allowing the mind to be free. Don’t quote me on that though! 😉
