A Character’s Desire

Fragmented-Consciousness

A Character’s Desire

lock me into your room,
educate me on the color Purple,
teach me Heavenly ways
and of Earthly wants,
lyrically muse me;
in the languages I know

mingle an ocean wave of Hemingway,
a ripple from Faulkner’s Mississippi,
and a teardrop of Salinger’s cynicism,
teach me something new;
I’ve read a million times,
a quandary from Poe,
a waking from Brontë –
pick one, or all!

a lesson in punctuation?
write into me the works of cummings,
open up my door,
set free a literary pool;
pierce at the holes in my head,
mostly in my heart –
gouge out the cryptic ether,
that lies foreboding;
the breath of Elephantis,
squelched, but desperate to survive!

claw out the voice of Woolf,
then, I’ll tell you a thing about Being,
along with excruciating pain,
Sketching out the things of past –
illuminating,
I will fall off the waterfall –
voices, words,
known, unknown, and forgotten

set me in a chamber full,
of dancing names;
that give a tidal washing –
Wells,
dangling Hovercraft,
singing a mockingbird song,
with the letters L-e-e,
naturally, cover my thoughts
in grand operas aroused by Zola,
twist my mind in a nonsensical Kipling tune,
let Fitzgerald seduce me,
satisfying this abode

lead down deep halls,
through the realms of Tolkien,
crass me into harsh (un)reality,
twirling in the bemusement of Steinbeck,
all the names suffocate,
they coat and wax my soul,
let me rise on the fragments
that are found in words of Euripides!

I will render empowered,
I will dwell your slave –
give me breath;{existence}
unchain my thoughts,
quivers, enticements,
whisking me a simple character,
manifesting as one of your stories,
paintings, drawings, songs,
an ever-existing poem –
saturated into the hearts of all

    Ah to what poetic prose does the angel speak, of history and mystery paint and passion. Commas and quotes such softer tunes to the note have never been heard.
