Raven’s Breath

Raven’s Breath

Smokey furls covered lips,
filled lungs with flush.
Speaking of things magical,
with thought and memory.
Unraveled tales of folklore wisps.

Air consumed apathetic curls,
once defined as life.
Raven’s pant upon the brow,
crusty flakes flicked off lashes.
Glinting black coverage umbrella’d,
silence stole the moment.

Long beak exhaling,
spittled dart of clear,
ranging direct to point,
gasp in and out,
fluctuation zing,
eyes inhaling,
master wisdom bestowed.
Pause a second,
sink it all in,
expiration — clean air.

Whisper words sift through soul,
sing back a pulse,
the throb of ignited heart.
Raven’s breath seared vessels,
twining rebirth of mind.

Breathe, breathe upon the shell,
lifeless as it lay,
Dear Raven sing echolalia,
strands of silver and green,
stitching full moon,
with psyche.

Uncurling motions twinge,
escaping faulty ether,
rise again stray frame,
Raven’s breath filled lungs,
life efflorescence,
the way of evanescence.

  1. The raven is one of my animals. There everywhere around. Well, crows, but they are related. I read a huge book on crows. They are one of the smartest animals, mate for life, live in communities. Loved your poem and the photo, too.

I love crows/ravens. When I write about them the urge just comes on and many times (not all) I later discover I am processing emotions I didn’t understand. The raven has intrigued me since a child. It stemmed from reading Edgar Allen Poe who has always been one of my go to reads when I am feeling lonely or sad. I find comfort in strange things sometimes. šŸ™‚ They are such fascinating creatures to me.

The raven seems to appear to me when I am doing a mind shift or I am feeling confused/sad. I will start seeing stories online, or images will pop up when I am looking for something completely different. One time a bunch of crows came into the neighborhood a couple houses down and were walking on the streets and sitting on the roof. It was so funny. I have never seen crows walk down the street of a neighborhood it was like they were a gang taking over. Lol! I was feeling very sad that day, but after that I felt much better. I don’t really know why. Crows had never done that before and they have not been back since.

Have you seen this site? http://www.avesnoir.com/ It has some interesting things on there. I love the images.
I am so glad you loved it and we share in the raven! šŸ™‚

    • There is a belief in India that close ones come to meet us in the form of a crow right after the funeral. the crows would come and eat the offerings given to the deceased person. the crows that usually come to eat from the offerings are purely black unlike the other crows which are grey and black. keep blogging….Just love reading it… šŸ™‚

        Hi Archuscribbles,

I think that is a wonderful and comforting thought about crows. I learn so much from different cultures and their beliefs.

Thank you so much for sharing and reading! šŸ™‚
