Wounded Cat

Wounded Cat

Precious cat,
I hear your cries,
I see your wound,
Gaping mass.

You look at me as if to call,
I come closer,
Your howl and scratch leap at me.
I will bleed for you.

Let me get closer,
and mend your hurt.
So independent,
Yet still needing me.

Curled up foil, Head bending low,
It’s alright to need someone.
You will not be weak, No need to fear.

Comfort for you.
Your eyes they stare,
Longing for touch,
Screeching for an embrace.

Not just anyone will do,
Not just any person knows how to hold you.
There are very few who are willing,
The piercing claws are too painful for them.

I have not given up hope.
I swoop you up!
Trickling open flesh,
I do not care!

Wrestling stopped.
Was that a purr?
Gentle, little one I see in your eyes.

I am not going anywhere,
This is our life—a ride!
Tamed and healed.
Healthy us.

The scars are covered,
New, but reminders.
Once we were both wounded,
Now whole.

    Angel…is this about your cat?
Is it a poem or has your cat had an accident?
It’s a great poem BTW, but I know how much you love your cat.
